Panos Kompatsiaris is a Greek-born, London-based logo designer with over 25 years of experience. He has created logos for some of the world's most iconic brands, including Coca-Cola, Nike, Adidas, and Microsoft. His work has been recognized with numerous awards, including the prestigious D&AD Yellow Pencil Award.

In this interview, Panos talks about his early influences, his design process, and the importance of collaboration. He also shares his thoughts on the future of logo design and how technology is changing the way we create and consume logos.

Iheartlogos: Panos, thank you for taking the time to talk to us today. Can you tell us a little bit about your journey into logo design?

Panos Kompatsiaris: It all started when I was a kid. I was always drawing and sketching. I loved to create things. When I was in high school, I started to get interested in graphic design. I took some classes and started to learn about the basics of design. After high school, I went to art school and studied graphic design. After graduating, I started working as a freelance designer. I worked on a variety of projects, including logos, brochures, and websites.

In 1995, I founded Kompat Design. Kompat Design is an international design agency that specializes in logo design. We have worked with some of the world's most iconic brands, including Coca-Cola, Nike, Adidas, and Microsoft. I am passionate about logo design. I believe that a well-designed logo can make a big difference for a brand. A logo is a brand's visual identity. It is the first thing that people see when they encounter a brand. A well-designed logo can help a brand to stand out from the competition and make a lasting impression.

Iheartlogos: What is your design philosophy?

Panos Kompatsiaris: My design philosophy is based on the belief that simplicity is key. I believe that a logo should be simple, memorable, and timeless. A logo should be able to communicate a brand's message clearly and concisely. I also believe that a logo should be adaptable. It should be able to work well in a variety of applications, both online and offline.

When I am designing a logo, I always start by getting to know the brand. I want to understand the brand's values, mission, and target audience. I also want to understand the brand's competitive landscape. Once I have a good understanding of the brand, I start to brainstorm ideas. I sketch out a variety of different concepts and then narrow them down to a few favorites. I then work with the brand to refine the design and create a final logo.

Iheartlogos: What are some of the most important things to consider when designing a logo?

Panos Kompatsiaris: There are a number of important things to consider when designing a logo. Some of the most important things include:

  • The brand's values and mission: The logo should reflect the brand's values and mission. It should communicate the brand's personality and what the brand stands for.
  • The target audience: The logo should be designed with the target audience in mind. It should be something that the target audience will find appealing and memorable.
  • The competitive landscape: The logo should be distinctive and memorable. It should be able to stand out from the competition.
  • Adaptability: The logo should be adaptable. It should be able to work well in a variety of applications, both online and offline.

Iheartlogos: What are some of the challenges of logo design?

Panos Kompatsiaris: There are a number of challenges that logo designers face. Some of the most common challenges include:

  • Coming up with an original idea: It can be difficult to come up with an original idea
