In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the iconic British science-fiction television series, Doctor Who, Target Books released a special collection of novelizations of some of the most beloved episodes from the show's long and storied history. The Day of the Doctor Target Collection features eight novels, each adapted from a different era of the show, spanning from the classic era to the modern era.

The Novels

1. The Dalek Invasion of Earth (1964) by Terry Nation

The novel adaptation of the iconic first Dalek story, originally broadcast in 1963. The Doctor and his companions, Susan, Ian, and Barbara, arrive on Earth in the year 2156 to find it under invasion by the Daleks, a ruthless alien race bent on exterminating all life forms.

2. The War Games (1969) by John Peel

The novel adaptation of the epic eight-part serial that marked the Second Doctor's regeneration. The Doctor and his companions, Jamie and Zoe, are caught in a deadly war game orchestrated by the Time Lords, the Doctor's own people.

3. The Time Monster (1972) by Robert Sloman

The novel adaptation of the Tenth Doctor's adventure in Pompeii, originally broadcast in 2008. The Doctor and his companions, Donna Noble and Martha Jones, travel back in time to witness the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, but their presence threatens to alter history.

7. The Pandorica Opens (2010) by Steven Moffat

The novel adaptation of the first part of the Eleventh Doctor's two-part 50th-anniversary special, originally broadcast in 2010. The Doctor and his companions, Amy Pond and Rory Williams, face their greatest challenge yet as they try to prevent the destruction of the universe.

8. The Day of the Doctor (2013) by Steven Moffat

The novel adaptation of the second part of the Eleventh Doctor's two-part 50th-anniversary special, originally broadcast in 2013. The Doctor and his companions, Amy Pond and Rory Williams, join forces with previous incarnations of the Doctor to save the universe from a deadly threat.
